According to the lending report of Bank of England last week, it is evident that the demand for small business loans remained quite weak. Companies that were under debt were sustained to pay them off. The report also pointed that there was a decline in mortgage lending as well which was caused due to the decline in the demand for new houses. The reason behind this decline in the demand for loans is assumed to be because of the bank’s unwillingness to lend loans to customers.

According to the official statistics, companies and people are paying off their loans instead of borrowing, while on the other hand; small businesses are calling banks to make more funds available for them. The essence of banking business is to offer good returns to the customers by lending their money invested to reliable and sound borrowers. If money is available then banks are obliged to lend it to reliable businesses. It is their customer’s money that they are lending and therefore, it is essential that it lends to viable borrower and also has healthy plans in order to ensure repayment of money.

Banks lately are suspected of being over cautious, thus resulting in failure to lend viable and reliable businesses that are essential for sustainable recovery of the economy. This has lead the chief executives of the British Bankers’ Association to take unparalleled step of joining together and solving out the barriers causing this issue. The group has divided their task into four streams including securitization and funding; market analysis and understanding; business finance, business aid and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises issues and trade finance.

The Bank of England will also be there for observing the activity throughout, as well as when there will be some concrete proposals; small business community representatives will also be there so as to ensure that their views are also being heard.
