Mobile phone users face a new threat now, and that is of revealing their location through mobile phone numbers. This amazing fact has been revealed in a study conducted by Webroot which says that almost 39% of people who use their mobile phone often make others know about their precise place. This happens when people who are so eager to be part of social networking sites often let, know others about where they are now. Jeff Horne who is the director of Threat Research has supported the results of this study that people who use mobile phones to connect to sites like Twitter often let others get acquainted about their current place.mp

However, features like Google locate only allow you to share this information with trusted pals. But, people should still exercise some prudence about leaking this confidential data. They should know their own responsibility. When someone posts on a site data about his location along with status, he sends the signals that no one else is there with him/her.

In the previous year, almost 30% of the UK members of this survey have told their geographical position to people who were not their friends, although they were aware of the dangers of this potential leak. Even 52% of people who tag their photographs make others aware about their whereabouts immediately as the modern phones of today are equipped with GPS photo tagging facilities.

Almost 52% users of this survey are perturbed about the effects of such information leak. In fact, women are more concerned because they think that stalkers can use this information to access them. Females are more bothered about letting out such information to stalkers than males. In this survey, only 27 percent of the male participants were aware of such issues as compared to 46% of females.

People should be judicious about using the privacy settings of the social networking websites along with phones. In fact, one should disable all the geo tagging tweaks of sites. Also, friend requests, site links and emails should only be allowed from acquaintances. But, people should also not befriend anyone without knowing him/her properly along with being wary about accepting attachments. Also, don’t post any information online that you are not sure about letting the rest of the world know about.
